Happy Birthday Baby Plucky! Cel setup of Baby Plucky dealing with a plumbing emergency from “The Potty Years,” directed by Jon McClenahan. One of three shorts from the “Henny Youngman Day” episode of “Steven Spielberg Presents ‘Tiny Toon Adventures’” which first aired November 22nd, 1991. This was the first full episode that StarToons completed and I was fortunate enough to animate on this little gem of a short featuring Baby Plucky!

Doom is technically both Riko and Nathan. Nathan is the toon in disguise who wants all the toons dead, Riko is the task man. He’s the face of the operation but Nathan is the mastermind

It is Nathan who melts from Dip at the end and it is Riko who takes the fall for his brothers murder. Think of Riko as the weasels. It is Riko and his Ravens(all toon ravens) who are chasing Andrew and Kevin around

Here’s a long summary of changes I made from the movie.

Kayleigh Day was a detective who solved toon related crimes. She was unfortunately murdered and Kevin grew up to take over her business. He later uncovered a toon was behind it so he began to hate them.

Wymack notices Andrew is putting less effort into his skits and thinks he misses his husband. Kevin is also drinking his way to death and Wymack kills two birds with one stone by having Kevin check on Nathaniel. Andrew isn’t the type to talk about troubles with his marriage so the plan is to get Nathaniel to spill the beans

But Kevin catches Ichirou and Nathaniel in a compromising situation and shares the photos with Andrew who vows to kill Ichirou for putting his hands on his husband (he refuses to believe Nathaniel would ever want that)

Unfortunately, Ichirou is already dead when Andrew gets there so he shrugs his shoulders and heads out. Nathaniel holds onto the blank paper Ichirou gave him prior (unknowing that it’s the will) there’s a manhunt for Andrew but Kevin doesn’t want to believe Andrew would actually kill Ichirou so to make up for his mistake, he tries to help Andrew out on his own free will. Andrew can’t care either way and only wants to know where Neil went (he sort of believes Neil did it)

After some back and forth with Riko and the Ravens, Nathaniel tracks Kevin down and accidentally wacks Andrew. Andrew wakes up in the trunk of a car so he naturally leaves. Neil and Kevin get captured by Nathan who reveals his plants to the duo. Andrew shows up but it’s in his design for comedy to mess up his plans so Riko ties him to Neil and sets to kill them using Dip. Kevin gets rid of the Ravens and fights Nathan, revealing he is a toon and that he murdered Kayleigh (and he’s Neil’s dad) and kills him. Then the detectives arrive and arrest Riko for the crimes

Neil shows everyone the blank paper which reveals it’s the will and everyone lives happily ever after

dethklok plays WoW

Nathan - main tank. Horde of course. Probably orc. His only toon. Absolutely a blood death knight both for aesthetic and because you know he's pulling top dps in addition to holding agg on everything in the room. Guild leader, does not take his title seriously but will still kick your ass if you bail on raid night. likes pvp but prefers pve

Pickles - plays mostly trolls, has 2 or 3 toons, probably also has an ugly forsaken and an ugly goblin (although goblin is a later race so depends on the year). Cat druid, often forced to spec into healing because mythic dungeons are only 5 man. But prefers to be cat or combat rogue. Incredible dps when he's allowed to do dps. not nurturing at all as a healer, WILL let you die if you piss him off (unless you're Nathan, but Nathan never dies). loves both pvp and pve but gets super steamed during pvp

Skwisgaar - paladin paladin paladin. Belf, of course. has secret female alts as well as secret ally alts. constantly adding his girlfriends to the guild and taking shit from the bank without asking. But he doesn't get in trouble because his dps is second to none - topping the charts even over Nathan. Ret pally, could technically heal with holy but his dps is just so insane that they can't afford to have him healing. pvp is beneath him

Toki - altaholic. Lots of female toons, lots of ally toons, gets bullied for both. Really wants to main a hunter so he can have a bunch of cute animal companions (and because it would be easier dps) but the others say that's gay so his main is a frost DK. the others make him spec into unholy because his crowd control brings clusters together so that Skwis and Nathan can wipe them out. So, so fucking angry that he never gets to do any actual dps because his plagues never get the chance to stack - and despite knowing it's a DOT issue the others clown on him for being the absolute bottom of the dps chart. pvp is too hard for him, no one protects him and everyone picks on him

Murderface - orc arms warrior and tauren fury warrior, dps but mostly off tank. makes cringe jokes (abt both native americans and milking) if tauren. One secret ally toon (human no less), also a warrior, that he uses to /walk around stormwind and RP badly. constantly brags about his dps but he's actually garbage, only above toki. makes a big deal out of his rank in the guild but he actually has no bank privileges. loves self harm through pvp

Charles - undead disc priest. a few alts, equal numbers male and female but almost all undead. probably a GM. heals when pickles is on dps and there's room or in a raid setting. guild treasurer, full bank permissions, has to constantly police the boys and spends thankless hours filling the bank back up with pots, food, etc. Also in charge of recruiting, so he should just be guild lead at this point but he dutifully never complains :) plays an affliction warlock and a couple rogues (combat and assassination) on a different server, when the boys give him one free fucking moment to do his own thing

Magnus - used to be a super powerful destro warlock that matched skwisgaar in dps. was super involved in the guild, help build it into what it was, contributed lots of materials, consumables, and money to the bank. Recruited some of their best players. after a horrific falling out (he was the asshole in the situation; controlling, etc) he was kicked from the guild and replaced. has since (due to wotlk) abandoned his warlock for a death knight. now he has a forever grudge and badmouths dethklok any chance he gets, but the majority of the server knows he's the drama so he has trouble finding others to play with. because of this he's been forced to switch over to alliance side. hence he falls in with...

MMA & the revengencers: MMA is yet another DK, probably blood, guild lead of the revengencers - rival guild to dethklok, constantly butting heads with them in pvp, ganking their low level members/alts, just generally being a nuisance. MMA wants revenge for Nathan (with the help of GM charles) getting his OG account banned

Edgar - human arcane mage main ("actually, the rotation is quite simple"). has lots of female alts. treasurer of the revengencers, takes everything way way way too seriously. Definitely works for blizzard or is a GM. very tense, sometimes outright hostile, relationship with Charles despite being essentially coworkers. "umm you sir have won the internet" "updoot" guy in chat. full collection of mounts, even the rare and/or limited edition ones

Which version of his name do you like best? Laurince Beetle Juice (musical) Betelgeuse (intended for movie cannon) or and this last one comes with a explination. Nat(han) Beetle Juice jr (semi cannon from cartoon) - in the cartoon his mother calls him Jr, and his father is called Nat. So in my head his first name is Nathan...

I didn't think this would be a long one, but here we are. Strap in!

Betelgeuse is my ultimate ultimate favourite because it's so silly.

Now that we know a bit more about his lore, being a "humble" grave-robber, this name is just so super duper ridiculous.

Like, who goes through 9 months of pregnancy and says "yeah, I'm naming this guy Betelgeuse."

That said, I think there's more to his name and the power significance than that. We may never know, but we can theorise.

As for Laurince (Lawrence?) - I hate it.

I'll break down why.

Names in the Beetlejuice universe(ses) are very important. Obviously the main man himself has a curse attached to his. In the Toonverse, names are often puns or indicative of a character's nature.

In the movie verse, names reveal more about characters.

One example is The Maitlands. The last name "Maitland" is Scottish-English and means "bad tempered," which fits perfectly with the Maitlands' fed-up attitude towards the Deetzs. It also works the other way, with them trying to appear "evil" and nasty to get the Deetzs out, but ultimately failing to do so.

It also sounds a little bit like "maintain," mirroring their desire to keep things just the way they are.

So, what about Lawrence rubs me the wrong way? It's used as a gag.

Firstly, there is no reason for his name to be Lawrence. From what I recall from the 2019 bootleg, they don't explain it afterwards, so it's just mini shock-factor. It's absurdly weird and prompts a laugh, and that's about it.

That said, I always thought it was a joke, because you can't trust everything Betelgeuse says, in any universe.

If it's not intended as a joke, then I have a few other problems with it

It irks me because I feel like very little thought went into it. Besides the name sounding as far away from 'Betelgeuse' as possible, it heavily implies character lore - lore the audience is never made privy to, which ultimately comes off as lazy writing.

If your show is going to open up boasting about a "bold departure from the original source material," live up to it. Challenging original canon, names and fundamental character traits isn't "a bold departure", it's bad writing - and disrespectful writing at that.

It's also a sign you that your main goal is desperately wanting to have a hit musical, but you are creatively unable to write a story (at the very least) half-attempting to follow canon lore from a beloved source. So, you change up nearly everything besides 'inspired' character looks, a few names and re-write pretty much everything else.

One thing you simply cannot challenge in Beetlejuice is the importance of names. If you're gonna give him a different name, set it up! In my opinion, the musical fans deserved something way more thought-out when setting up a 'real' or "first name" for Musical!Juice. Give it lore!

Maybe it's because I utterly detest the fact they made Juno his mother, among other things...

Anyway.

As for the Toonverse, Mr. Beetle ("Jr") Juice has always cracked me up. The cartoon is ridiculous. Beetlejuice is a Neitherworld native in this universe, so it makes sense that this is his name is literally Beetle Juice. I really like that in BJ2, Wolf Jackson calls him "Mr. Juice." It's a really nice call back to the original toon.

And I always though that "Nat" was a nickname playing on "gnat" (like the mosquito thingies), but I really like that Nathan headcanon! Makes me imagine a rebellious Toonverse Teen!Beetlejuice refusing to be called by his birth name lol.

Jimthan Propaganda (One-sided Toxic Dynamic, Underage - Both Jimmy and Nathan are children)

"Jimmy and Nathan have an adorably onesided dynamic where it's never entirely clear if Jimmy is fully aware just how much Nathan hates his guts. Fueled partly by their different feelings on summer camp, Nathan has tried to get Jimmy killed multiple times, almost always ending in his own misfortune as a result. Much like a classic Looney Toons pair, Jimmy's insistence on fair play and good sportsmanship somehow always wins against Nathan's schemes. Even after encountering a situation where it is Severely, OBJECTIVELY clear that Nathan is just a straight up evil person who wants him and everyone else involved in the camp Dead, Jimmy seems to openly consider him a friend who he's glad to see every summer. This doesn't mean he never fucks with him, but Jimmy's attitude being so chill and friendly makes a wonderful contrast against Nathan's seething hatered. They also seem to be on mildly reasonable terms at school, partly because whenever Nathan has to directly interact with him, he feigns friendship, making the whole dynamic that much more complex. Please let my disabled babies win against the conventionally attractive anime people, i mean no disdain for the other ships i just think that would be really cool!!"

Stannarrator Propaganda (Codependency, Toxic Power Dynamics - In most endings)

"The Stanley Parable is a game about The Narrator wanting to tell a story through their game but having to rely on the Stanley's choices. The core of the game is that Stanley and The Narrator are bound to each other: Stanley needs The Narrator to make the "parable" he lives in, and The Narrator needs Stanley to make the choices that drive the story.

The Narrator clearly has the most power in this dynamic, since he can alter the world the Stanley lives in: modifying the rooms, creating and deleting objects at will, reloading the game, altering Stanley's perception, knowing almost everything and being almost everywhere. But, despite all that power, he isn't able to control the one thing that keeps his story existing: Stanley's choices.

Okay, spoilers to both the original 2013 game and the Ultra Deluxe remake from here on out since it's impossible to talk about them without spoiling a lot of the endings.

In one of the new endings on the Ultra Deluxe remake, the Skip Button ending, The Narrator creates a button that lets Stanley skip his dialogue `inspired` by a bad Steam review, but when Stanley clicks this button The Narrator is left all alone in that room, and which each click the skip becomes longer, from minutes, to hours, to weeks, to months… And in the fifth skip (where Stanley stays frozen for like, one, two weeks), The Narrator breaks up, talking about how he needs Stanley to listen to him and how scared he is of slipping back into the silence he passes through every time we use the skip button. In his own words, `I can't lose myself in the stretch of emptiness between you and me.` Of course, since it's the only way to advance in this ending, we skip again, and again, until The Narrator ends up eventually disappearing after the 12th or 13th skip, leaving Stanley alone in a desert, and that's where the ending stops, though it continues on the Epilogue, but I'll leave some things to add as propaganda during the polls.

Despite this, The Narrator still has more control of the situation than Stanley, like on the Explosion ending, where he traps Stanley in a room while the building's destroys itself as consequence for choosing to activate the Mind Control Machine instead of shutting it down to free everyone. He keeps acting like Stanley is nothing but a vehicle for him to pass a message through his story. `Watching you try to make sense of everything and take back the control wrested away from you…it's quite rich. I almost hate to see it go!` `You're only still playing instead of watching a cutscene because I want to watch you for every moment that you're powerless, to see you made humble. […] You wanted to control this world; that's fine. But I'm going to destroy it first, so you can't.`

But there's one point where they're equal, they both want to free themselves. On the Museum ending, we meet a being that is higher than The Narrator, the Female Narrator (yeah, that's her name), and she gives the best description of the relationship between these two: `Oh, look at these two. How they wish to destroy one another. How they wish to control one another. How they both wish to be free. Can you see? Can you see how much they need one another? No, perhaps not. Sometimes these things cannot be seen.`"
